Huelva is a Mecca for those interested in Christopher Columbus, with a number of significant tourist attractions relating to the famous explorer. In addition the Coto Donana national park is also an added attractions to holiday makers visiting Huelva

Huelva is a large, mainly industrial city flanked on either side by the Tinto River and the Odiel River. Huelva also hosts several festivals throughout the year.

Beaches on Holiday in Huelva:

The beach in Huelva is approx 3km long and consists of golden sand and pebbles. Huelva beach is accessed via a road which runs through an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is backed by the Juan Carlos dock on the River Odiel. Fronting the Donana National Park there is mile upon mile of beaches between Matalascanas and Mazagon.

Things to do on Holiday in Huelva:

In the heart of Huelva you will find the bullring and the 18th century Baroque style Cathedral. Whilst on holiday in Huelva take a picnic to Moret Park and stroll around its lake or ride around its cycling paths.

On the banks of the River Tinto, at the Muelle de las Caravelas in Huelva you can learn of the history of Columbus in the museum and, outside in the lagoon, you can access three reconstructed ships and just imagine life aboard on his voyages of discovery. You can learn more of the journeys of Columbus at the neighbouring La Rabida Monastery.

In Huelva the Donana National Park covers a vast area of sand dunes and wetlands, some of which can be accessed independently but to visit the most protected areas you must join a guided tour. The park is home to wild animals, including deer, boar and wild horses and many water birds as well as being a winter stop off for migratory birds. Tours are available on foot and via 4x4 and boat.

Annual festivals in Huelva, classed as a national tourist attraction include Easter Week in April and the Huelva Carnivals which are usually held in February or March.

Out and about in Huelva:

The main shopping streets in the Huelva run either side of the Calle Palacios, behind the Plaza las Monjas and you will find international brand names as well as plenty of pavement cafes and restaurants to relax in on your holiday.

On the banks of the River Odiel, the sleek curved exterior of the Aqualon Shopping Centre houses a selection of shops and a couple of fast food outlets. On the top floor there are bars and a terrace which looks out over the river.

Nearby Attractions to Huelva:

The Minero Mining Museum provides a fascinating insight to the regions mining history and the train takes you on a journey through unforgettable red and golden landscapes alongside the famous Red River.

El Rocio is a sight to remember with its sand roads, wild west architecture and plenty of fencing to tie your horse to. Of course, it is best known for the huge annual El Rocio Pilgrimmage. The city of Seville is also within an hours drive of Huelva.

The beaches and golf courses surrounding Isla Canela, Islantilla and El Rompido are all within approx 45 minutes drive from Huelva.
